Milky Way Season Begins

It was a cold February night/morning for our trek down to Eleven Mile Canyon State Park and Reservoir, but the location was ideal to capture the first Milky Way images of the season with a new moon night. We had enough time to capture images from both sides of the lake despite the galaxy not rising until 3:30 am.

Milky Way Night

First trip out to 11 Mile Reservoir/Lake George, Co to capture some Milky Way. A clear cold night with a bit of humidity didn’t preclude the capture of some interesting images. While waiting for the Milky Way to rise, again we played with star trails.

Milky Way Season Debuts!

Saturday, April 2, 2016, we officially kicked off the Milky Way hunters photography season.  An all night trip to the Paint Mines Interpretive Park, near Calhan, Co, yielded some interesting results. While not as agile as the other two shooters, I was able to scramble up and down to some interesting viewpoints. Even experimented with some new techniques and equipment for some very long exposure shots.

July Night Skies

Milky Way over Roxborough

The night skies this July during the old to new moon period of the month were, for the  most part, clear enough to grab some decent images of the Milky Way over Roxborough Park. As a general rule, when shooting the sky and stars, I start at 800 iso, around 20 seconds, f2.8 with a Rokinon 14mm lens. I tweak the time and ISO as needed to get the effect or exposure I want. A bi to light painting is usually done to bring out the foreground a bit. Post processing is done in LR6CC.

Milky Way Photography

Caught a good night to shoot some stars over Roxborough State Park this weekend. For being this close to Denver, I was pleased with the captures. Several of the later captures were from Guanella Pass and roadside near Evergreen.
