Arrowhead First Light

Arrowhead First Light

First Light on the red rocks here at Arrowhead Golf Course in Roxborough Park, Co can be an enchanting view. This misty morning with the frosted vegetation was almost ethereal.

Willow Creek Trail

Willow Creek Trail at Roxborough State Park

It was a beautiful day for hike through this gem of a State Park. I opted for one of the more moderate trails just for a change of scenery. With a Colorado blue sky and wispy white clouds, the day was perfect.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park Afternoon

In need of a little head clearing earlier this week,  I wandered up to RMNP to poke around and see what was to be seen. Cold, crisp, and snowy conditions, and temps in the high 20’s were a wake up! The lakes, for the most part were frozen over and snow covered. The dryness of the air and gusty winds made for some interesting snow devils dancing across the lakes.

The changes in altitude gave view to different conditions also. Blowing snow at Bear Lake (9500′), clearer at Sprague Lake (8733′), and clear at Moraine Valley made for some interesting views. I especially like the scene below at Moraine Park. The clear meadow, snow/fog shrouded mountains in the distance, topped by blue skies. It is a perfect representation of the drive.

Roxborough State Park Views

Panoramic Views From  Roxborough State Park

Did som poking around my favorite State Park this morning with a fellow photographer seeking different vantage points from Lyons Overlook.  This overlook is a branch trail off the Fountain Valley Trail and is accessible for most kids and adults. It yields some of the best views, in my opinion, of the geology in the Park.

Monument Arch Kansas

Monument Arch Kansas

On the plains of western Kansas, about 20 miles south of the Oakley exit on I70, stands the most incongruous rock formations that one would expect to see in this land of rolling fields and wide open spaces. Located on private land, the owners do allow visitors from sunrise to sunset to view these unique formations.

RMNP Night Views

A Night at Rocky Mountain National Park

Five adventurous photographers spent a recent night scrambling around Rocky Mountain National Park for fun. From capturing sunset at Bear Lake to dawn at Dream Lake, we were able to experiment with new techniques (for some) and wander to areas of the park we don’t normally see. (finding Lake Irene as we walked right past it in the dead of night without even seeing it.)

Jackson, Wyoming and the Tetons

Tetons and Yellowstone

I recently spent a week exploring the Tetons in Jackson, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park with a  focus on night images. Shown below are some of the iconic buildings that are often shot as well as a sampling of the celestial and Milky Way photography we worked on. Coming goon will be the panoramic images of the stars and mountains. Several of these images are available on FineArtAmerica.com as prints, canvas, poster or framed. If you want an option you don;t see, contact me and we can work something out.

Exploring Rifle, Co

Rifle Falls State Park

My first winter trip to the park with a couple of photographer friends to capture some of the winter beauty. While the ice caves weren’t quite up to expectations, there was enough to capture some of the natural delights. I did play a bit with long exposure for the falls to soften the water flow, and I am happy with how the images turned out.

Roxborough Park at Dusk

Roxborough Park Blue Hour

Today was one of the those late afternoons where the setting sun promised to provide some interesting light here in Roxborough Park and Roxborough State Park. One of these views will be familiar to those who follow my work, while the others are ones I see all the time, but tonight they lit up!

Morning Colors in Roxborough Park

Pink Skies of Roxborough Park

Some morning I awaken to a glow in the room from the morning light through a skylight. Today was one of those and I know, I have about 5 minutes to try and capture the fleeting colors. Today was with the new Nexus 5X cellphone. The images are unfiltered or altered. The beauty we continually see here astounds me.

Chatfield Skies

Sky Palette

The sky over the reservoir at Chatfield State Park is a veritable artist’s palette of colors. These four images were all taken the same evening. As the sun sank deeper behind the foothills, the colors and shapes of the clouds changed bringing totally different views.

Trail Ridge Road Cruise

Trail Ridge Road

Trial Ridge Road opened a bit later this year as a result of the late spring snows. But once opened the views were as spectacular as always. While I did not do the whole length this trip, I did spend some time exploring Lake Granby and Monarch Lakes just outside of the park. Definitely added to my list of places to camp, sooner rather than later.

Once into RMNP, the elk were out and enjoying the afternoon sun. It amazed my the number of tourists that closely approached them for a good picture. And the marmots were out at the top, and largely ignored.

Touring Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods

Recently had some friends swing thru the Denver area as they were RV’ing across the country. We took he time to visit Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs for a bit of hiking and sightseeing. After that we had an awesome lunch at Rudy’s BBQ off of Rte 24. Brisket! mmmmm….

As I was packing up to leave this spot last night, the thin wispy clouds to the southeast set a comfortable mood.

Chatfield Reflections

Chatfield Reflections

On Memorial Day this year, I needed a little time to clear my head so I found my way to one of my more peaceful area spots at Chatfield State Park, camera in hand. The sky and the clouds cooperated to give me a few images that I find very calming.

Paint Mines, Calhan, Co

Paint Mines

Kind of a mini technicolor version of The Badlands. Complete with hoodoos, spires, sandstone and clay, these formations are eerily captivating. Actually located in Calhan, Co Paint Mines Interpretive Park is about 35 miles east of Colorado Springs, Co. Of the 3 entrances to parking, the 2nd provides the most direct access to the formations.

Dusk at Garden Of The Gods

Garden of the Gods

While down in Manitou Springs this afternoon to drop off an image for an upcoming gallery showing, we took the opportunity to drive thru Garden of the Gods during the blue hour. Sometimes the stars align and you can grab an interesting image.  The first was taken facing southwest with the setting sun streaming thru the gap in the sandstone formations. The second was from the back, sun facing side.

Snowy Red Rocks

Snow Capped Red Rocks

The day after we had 14″+ snow dumped on us, I had to drop some paperwork off at Roxborough State Park office. I must have viewed this rock formation a hundred times but it never quite grabbed my attention the way it did this day. Kind of wish I had the good camera and lens but this cell phone shot will have to do for now.

Red Rocks on Ice

Red Rocks at Arrowhead

Whenever the weather changes, this is one of my go to places for captures I truly enjoy. The way the snow or ice dresses the landscape is spectacular to my eyes. I have been asked to submit the image on the left to a gallery show in March 2015 and am thrilled to have the opportunity. It is also available for sale thru Fine Art America.

Rifle Falls

Tony Lazzari, Photographer

I have long wanted to shoot these falls and found myself near enough to the area this week to go capture them. Because of the force of the water, I did not need to go very slow to get some smoothness in the image.
I thought the autumn change added a bit of flavor.
